THIRTY-six drivers have been stopped and issued with Fixed Penalty Notices for mobile phone or seatbelt offences in a road safety awareness operation in Worthing.

POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a serious collision in Worthing yesterday (Thursday, May 17).

At around 4.20pm, a collision took place between a black Mercedes car and a blue Kawasaki motorcycle on Tarring Road.

The rider of the motorbike, a 33-year-old man from Worthing, was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital suffering from serious injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

He remains in hospital today (Friday, May 18).

WORTHING’S mayor had to cancel her charity ball just days before the event because of a lack of interest.

Mayor Ann Barlow was due to stage her farewell ball at the Pavilion Theatre on Saturday, but had to cancel after only 100 people had bought tickets.

She said: “It was very sad to have to cancel, but we just did not sell enough tickets. The capacity of the Pavilion is 290 and we sold about 100 tickets.
